Well, this past weekend our musical group went back down to the Lake and did a Sunday evening performance at Christ's Church. We sang two songs in their morning service as a preview for the evening, and had a great response. We all felt as if God was going to do something big that night, and He did not let us down in the least!
Showtime was at 7pm, and by 6:45 we were all prayed up and ready to take the stage. The crowd was still filing in when the music started and Michael took the stage. By the time he finished singing the opening song you could sense the anticipation of the people grow. We marched onto stage and began the night with great power.
In past practices and performances I have always become a bit winded during the song before my solo. I have learned that I must maintain the driving enthusiasm, while not exhausting myself and becoming short of breath. God allowed me to remain calm and collected and maintain my breathing throughout Ruth's song (a spirited number entitled "Rocky Road"). Then it was my turn at the mic.
I stepped up to the mic and was totally at ease. I began singing toward John (played by Michael, the lead character and director of the play), then shifted toward the audience. It was simply me, singing for God in front of a large crowd (I think there were more than 300 people in attendance - I will try to verify). God helped me remember to breathe, which sounds simple, but is incredibly hard to do at times. This allowed me to have the power I needed for some of the notes. I also approached a couple of the notes more tenderly, as directed by Micheal in our rehearsal last Friday. This proved to make a wonderful difference in how the notes felt and sounded coming out of my mouth. So, I hit every note, took every breath, maintained my composure, felt incredibly comfortable and then finished the song and sat back down in my seat.
This was the best performance to date that I have given on my song, and the best performance of the entire musical by the cast - in my opinion. God blessed us with a wonderful crowd, a marvelous host church (who did everything possible to make us comfortable) and an excellent night of amazing music.
My excitement regarding the musical is at its peak, and I cannot wait to see where God takes it!
