Ten years ago today, under cloudy skies and a slight rain, I set foot onto a grassy field in the middle of Shelby Farms just outside of Memphis, TN. I had spent the night prior in a tent about a mile away on the same farm, surrounded by thousand of strangers who were doing the same. My travelling companions on this journey were two buddies, Brad Walker and Mike Vincent, as well as my sister, Jessica, who decided to come along the night before.

You're Not Alone - TuesdayTunes
Lyrics for "You're Not Alone" by Meredith Andrews:
I search for love
When the night came and it closed in
I was alone
But you found me where I was hiding
And though I'll never ever be the same
It was the sweetest voice that called my name
Singing
You're not alone
For I am here
Let me wipe away every fear
My love I've never left your side
I have seen you through the darkest night
And I'm the one that's loved you all your life
All of your life
You cry yourself to sleep
'Cause the hurt is real
And the pain cuts deep
All hope seems lost
With heartache your closest friend
And everyone else long gone
You've had to face the music on your own
But there is a sweeter song that calls you home
Sayin'
You're not alone
For I am here
Let me wipe away your every tear
My love I've never left your side
I have seen you through the darkest nights
And I'm the one who's loved you all your life
All your life
Faithful and true... Forever
My love will carry you
You're not alone
For I... I am here
Let me wipe away every fear... Oh yeah
My love I've never left your side
I have seen you through your darkest nights
Your darkest nights
And I'm the one that's loved you all your life
All of your life
Specific Socks
Here are the points of contention:
She thinks it is weird that some people think that certain socks go on certain feet.
I know that each sock has a specific foot that it calls home. She claims that every sock is made the same and that they fit each foot the same.
I agree with both of these statements until after a sock is worn a few times.
She claims that a sock returns to its original shape after being washed.
I say that a sock will never return to it original shape, as it will always get stretched to fit the foot it belongs to.
In a bried survey of coworkers who were present during this debate, I believe I proved my point by having both people questioned agree with my stance.
Does anyone agree with me that socks belong to a certain foot, or would you agree with my sister that all socks are to be worn on either foot at any time?
(And yes, I wear Gold Toe Socks and love them.)
The Prodigal
I found this video and song incredibly moving:
Lyrics to "The Prodigal" from the album "Sons and Daughters":
You held out Your arms, I walked away
Insolent I spurned Your face
Squandering the gifts You gave to me
Holding close forbidden things
Destitute a rebel still, a fool in all my pride
The world I once enjoyed is death to me
No joy, no hope, no life
Where now are the friends, that I had bought
Gone with every penny lost
What hope could there be for such as I
Sold out to a world of lies
Oh, to see Your face again, it seems so distant now
Could it be that You would take me back
A servant in Your house
You held out Your arms, I see them still
You never left, You never will
Running to embrace me, now I know
Your cords of love will always hold
Mercy’s robe, a ring of grace
Such favor undeserved
You sing over me and celebrate
The rebel now Your child

He Must Have Done Something
In our small group at church last night, we were discussing Hell and various things about it. At one point, the thought of "how can people be sent to Hell when they have never heard of Christ?" was brought up. In our brief discussion, the following verses were mentioned:
"Then He was born and everything changed."...
"But then something happened. He was captured. Accused of some crime. Here He is with His hands tied."
"He must have done something."
"Why? What did we do?"...
"But look. That's not the end of it."
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." - Psalm 19:1
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse." - Romans 1:20One of the members of the group then mentioned that she was reminded of a scene from a movie where this was presented in a dramatic way. I immediately knew what movie she was talking about(Amistad) and wanted to post this scene today:
"Then He was born and everything changed."...
"But then something happened. He was captured. Accused of some crime. Here He is with His hands tied."
"He must have done something."
"Why? What did we do?"...
"But look. That's not the end of it."
"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." - Isaiah 53:5
Grape Stomping
In a conversation at lunch today, I mentioned this video and learned that there are people who still haven't seen it. This is a classic, so watch it to the end!
All I Can Say - TuesdayTunes
This is one of my favorites:
Lyrics for "All I Can Say" by the David Crowder* Band:
Lord I'm tired
So tired from walking
And Lord I'm so alone
And Lord the dark
Is creeping in
Creeping up
To swallow me
I think I'll stop
Rest here a while
And this is all that I can say right now
And this is all that I can give
That's my everything
Oh, didn't You see me cry'n?
And didn't You hear me call Your name?
Wasn't it You I gave my heart to?
I wish You'd remember
Where you sat it down
And this is all that I can say right now
I know it's not much
And this is all that I can give
Yeah that's my everything
I didn't notice You were standing here
I didn't know that
That was You holding me
I didn't notice You were cry'n too
I didn't know that
That was You washing my feet
And this is all that I can say right now
I know it's not much
And this is all that I can give
Yeah that's my everything
